12th AIBR INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF ANTHROPOLOGY
«Heritage, Change and Resistances»
University of Burgos, Faculty of Law
Burgos (Spain), September 1-4, 2026

Change is an inseparable attribute of human nature and involves constant negotiation of our way of being and existing in the world. The same is true of the search for stability, as a fundamental part of our identity, as that which remains unperturbed across generations. Anthropology has based much of its research on these two concepts. Topics such as evolution, identity, culture, existence, values, and progress, to name just a few, always refer to change and stability, as well as the resistance that arises from them. These are some of the ideas that will be explored in the next edition of the AIBR International Anthropology Congress.
Under the motto Heritage, Change, and Resistance, we invite everyone interested in the study of human beings to open the debate on the dynamics of our species. The concept of Heritage speaks to us of legacy and inheritance, especially in its three most debated aspects: material, biological, and cultural inheritance. The concept of Change, as already mentioned, is an inherent component of almost all human circumstances. In a world strained by exponential variations, it is inevitable that Resistance will arise as a counterbalancing force. We are experiencing chronic change in our culture, our way of being, our way of communicating, and our relationships between generations. How do we face this from our human essence? How do we understand this from each of our areas of study? What values remain? What forms of resistance arise?
The 12th AIBR International Anthropology Congress will be held in a privileged location. The city of Burgos is one of the most important and symbolic places in European history. It is one of the oldest Spanish cities and its importance spans from the Middle Ages to the present day. A few kilometers away are the famous archaeological sites of Atapuerca, and its Museum of Human Evolution is a world reference in paleoanthropology. We would like to thank the University of Burgos for offering to host this edition of our Annual Congress. The Faculty of Law, where the event will be held, is a unique building, with a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque architecture that reflects the rich cultural tradition of the city.
